The Scottish Vets retained the Mary McKenna Perpetual Trophy for the sixth time today at Cruden Bay Golf Club. Captain Lynne Terry was understandably delighted with her team and the result, especially over her home course of Cruden Bay of which she was justifiably proud. Happily the grey weather of yesterday was a thing of the past although the defeated captain Mary McKenna, tongue in cheek, blamed the change of wind direction for her team's lack of fortune.
Starting off today's resume in the singles one point up had made things slightly easier for the home team but that did not diminish the Scots girls' determination as they tumbled out of their sundry accommodation in Cruden Bay - B and B, generous hospitality, DIY - some replete with full English breakfast, some left to make their own toast - but all eager to do battle.
The draw for the singles matches had, as usual, been accomplished by pulling the names of team players from each side, randomly out of the hat, all with the object of making this one of the most sociable, enjoyable but seriously fought matches ever.
