The results published on this website for the Spring Meeting at Gullane No 3 on Monday 6th contained an unconscious error and have been corrected. It had been calculated that the CSS was 72 (+3) for Gullane Home players but only 71(+2) for Away players.
The following has been quoted from Kirkwoodgolf:
"It's been pointed out that under Clause 2.3 of Appendix B, Competition Scratch Score Procedure in the CONGU Handbook (Page 53) that if the Competition Scratch Score for 'Home' players is higher than that calculated for 'Away' players the CSS Calculation should default to a single CSS calculation, calculated for the whole field.
The CSS for the whole field went up +2 to 71 on the day."
Gillian is generously trying to take the blame for this on her own website but only because she sat for more than an hour helping your committee - novices in the ways of their new computer - work out the two separate CSS's, when in fact that same committee would still be sitting in the Gullane clubhouse were it not for her kind assistance. Thanks very much Gillian. I'm sure you would much rather have been sitting with your new grandson. Like you I hope the Gullane Home players are not too disappointed with this news and that it hasn't caused problems.
On the bright side it's good to be aware of yet another anomaly in our handicapping system and we will definitely be ready for it the next time.
