East Vets v British Seniors Men @ Elie GC on Thursday 16th May

It was a glorious sunny day for the annual match against the British Men's Seniors Team. As always we were treated to a warm welcome and lovely lunch before the competition. One gentleman even travelled all the way up from Harrogate just to play in this match!

The course was in fantastic condition and the views across the Forth were stunning. Playing off the men's tees (albeit we get extra strokes) is always a challenge but unfortunately the wind caused havoc for the ball in the air as well as on the putting greens. The British Seniors were victorious in all 6 matches.

Results aside, everyone who participated had a most enjoyable day which was finished off with tea/coffee and scones before heading home.

Team matches:

Chris Underwood & Jim Patrick bt Ruth Brown & Moyra Statham 4/2
Peter Rhodes & Tony Fasson bt Dulcie Barnes & Jean Bryden 1 up
Andrew Gray & Alastair Kerr bt Anne Rorrison & Ellice Cackett 4/3
Richard Muckart & Spencer Patrick bt Dianne Brown & Margaret Goldberg 3/2
Alan Mackie & Alan Williamson bt Irene Stewart & Elsa Todd 3/2
Fraser Mills & John Duncan bt Jan Laing & Carole Mason 5/3

Many thanks to The British Seniors Men's team for a very enjoyable day.
Thanks also to Elie Golf Club and their caterers.

Starter Hut 2

The sight of a submarine periscope towering almost 10m above the starter’s hut at Elie is one of the more unusual spectacles in world golf. At the end of April 2014 the periscope took up its new home in the newly built Starters' Office. The periscope was salvaged from HMS Excalibur in 1966 and was presented to the club by member Gavin Reekie. It gives the starter a perfect view over the hill at the first hole and having made sure the group in front are well on their way, he can then safely invite golfers on the tee to ‘play away.’
