East Vets v West Vets at Cochrane Castle GC - Results
The annual match for the Asp Trophy against the West Vets took place at Cochrane Castle GC on Thursday 15th August. Despite our best efforts, we were soundly beaten 4 games to 1. This means the Asp Trophy remains with the West for yet another year.
An excellent meal was provided by new caterer Laura Rae and her team.

Championship Day @ at Haddington Golf Club
It was a rather cloudy and muggy morning for the semi finals with the rain starting around the 8th hole and was fairly unpleasant for a few holes. Thankfully the rain stopped and the afternoon turned out to be dry if a bit humid.
Semi Finals
Game 1 Jennifer Bryans beat Sue Penman on 21st hole.
A very tough, tight game played by two very determined and highly talented golfers
Game 2 Kay Lannin beat Sal Shepherd on 18th hole
Again, another tight match down to the last putt on the 18th !
CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
The final was played between Jennifer Bryans and Kay Lannin with Jennifer winning at the 16th Hole.
This was an exciting game with some superb golf on display. The first 2 holes were halved then Jennifer went 2 up. Kay won holes 5 & 7 but Jennifer was still 2 up after 9.
Both girls then played par golf for the next 5 holes, halving each hole in a very tight match until 15th when Kay's drive ended up behind a tree to go 3 down. On 16th hole, again both players had good shots into the green and equally long putts which they both put within 4 feet of the hole finishing with a par. A good match, well fought by two extremely talented players.
Congratulations to our semi finalists Sue and Sal and to Kay for achieving 2nd place. Jennifer will now represent the East Vets at the Championships at Blairgowrie at the end of September.

The Elise Duncan Trophy - East Vets v West Vets at Glencorse GC on Tuesday 25th June 2019
The annual low handicap singles match against the West Vets for the Elise Duncan Trophy was held today at Glencorse Golf Club. As usual, Billy and his team extended a very warm welcome to both teams with a smile, serving tea and coffee and hot filled rolls on arrival.
The course was in excellent condition despite the heavy rain and atrocious weather the previous day. The weather was good - just a little cold at first but held fair and dry the whole day. The course was new to a few players and the fast greens proved to be a good challenge. Both teams played some excellent golf and the match was played in a friendly but competitive spirit.
The East Vets won the match 5 1/2 to 3 1/2This is the 5th win in a row for the East Vets - well done Girls!
Thanks to Caroline Kinnaird, Lady Captain at Glencorse who joined Chris and Anne on the course. Glencorse GC yet again exceeded expectations for their hospitality and for a most enjoyable meal after the match.

What a glorious day for the East v Midland match at Glenbervie GC - brilliant sunshine and very little wind. The course, with its stunning view from the first tee, was in beautiful condition. The match was, like last year, very close with the remaining 3 matches on the course all 1 up going up the 18th. Unfortunately it was not enough to win the match which ended 4:3 to Midland Vets.

East Vets v British Seniors Men @ Elie GC on Thursday 16th May
It was a glorious sunny day for the annual match against the British Men's Seniors Team. As always we were treated to a warm welcome and lovely lunch before the competition. One gentleman even travelled all the way up from Harrogate just to play in this match! The course was in fantastic condition and the views across the Forth were stunning. Playing off the men's tees (albeit we get extra strokes) is always a challenge but unfortunately the wind caused havoc for the ball in the air as well as on the putting greens. The British Seniors were victorious in all 6 matches.
Results aside, everyone who participated had a most enjoyable day which was finished off with tea/coffee and scones before heading home.
Team matches:
Chris Underwood & Jim Patrick bt Ruth Brown & Moyra Statham 4/2
Peter Rhodes & Tony Fasson bt Dulcie Barnes & Jean Bryden 1 up
Andrew Gray & Alastair Kerr bt Anne Rorrison & Ellice Cackett 4/3
Richard Muckart & Spencer Patrick bt Dianne Brown & Margaret Goldberg 3/2
Alan Mackie & Alan Williamson bt Irene Stewart & Elsa Todd 3/2
Fraser Mills & John Duncan bt Jan Laing & Carole Mason 5/3
Many thanks to The British Seniors Men's team for a very enjoyable day.
Thanks also to Elie Golf Club and their caterers.
The sight of a submarine periscope towering almost 10m above the starter’s hut at Elie is one of the more unusual spectacles in world golf. At the end of April 2014 the periscope took up its new home in the newly built Starters' Office. The periscope was salvaged from HMS Excalibur in 1966 and was presented to the club by member Gavin Reekie. It gives the starter a perfect view over the hill at the first hole and having made sure the group in front are well on their way, he can then safely invite golfers on the tee to ‘play away.’

The Spring Meeting held at Musselburgh Golf Club on 8th April 2019
The Spring Meeting was held today at Musselburgh Golf Club. After the miserable weather experienced over the last few days it was great to have a dry day, albeit a little cold. The course was playing long, the greens tricky and the bunkers proved more than a little challenging ruining a few cards!
It was great to see a few new Vet members playing today.
Many thanks to the staff at Musselburgh GC for their warm welcome and attention whilst they are going through their refurbishments.
