WINNERS IN SEPTEMBER 2016: BLAIRGOWRIE & ESVLGA KNOCKOUTS

As reported on Monday, our East Vets Champion Jennifer Bryans (Harburn) won the inter Divisional SVLGA Championship at Blairgowrie. Jennifer is pictured above with the Scroggie Cup.

The Championship matchplay took place over the Lansdowne course. Having received a bye in the quarter finals, Jennifer won her semi-final 3 & 2 against Fiona Hunter who represented Galloway, as pictured to the left.

In the other semifinal, Sheena Wood of North Division (the defending 2015 SVLGA Champion  and Scottish Vets internationalist) was taken to extra holes. Sheena progressed by winning at the 20th hole, prevailing over Gillian Kyle of West Division.

In the afternoon Final, Jennifer edged ahead of the defending champion and once ahead never lost her advantage. Displaying an impressive short game, Jennifer pitched and putted to great effect whilst making very few mistakes. Her steady play saw her 2 up at the 12th hole then after halving the 13th, Jennifer moved to 3 up whilst a half at the 15th made her "dormie". An errant tee shot from Sheena at the 16th helped Jennifer to close out the match 4 & 2. A smiling Jennifer, the new SVLGA Champion, is pictured aside holding the flag at the 16th green  whilst the picture below shows her with husband and super caddie, Dave, outside the clubhouse.
Fantastic achievement, Jennifer - very well done.

Alongside the Inter-divisional Championship, other trophies are played for at Blairgowrie and a full list of prizewinners can be seen by clicking on this link.
East Vets' Sheila Hunter (Murrayfield) won the Catherine Corstorphine Salver for the best nett bronze division score - for the second time in three years. Very well done Sheila, who is pictured below with the Salver.

In addition to the winners at Blairgowrie, both East Vets matchplay knockout competitions  have now concluded.  In the Final of the Ramsden Cup, Margaret Fergusson (Murrayfield) won a very close encounter against new member Jane MacLean (Lochend). Margaret holed out her crucial, last putt on the 18th to become the 2016 Hole and Hole Winner.(Photo below)

The Final of the Friendship Foursomes Quaich was between Kate Johnston and Fiona McLaren (both Baberton) who defeated  Lynn Wilson and Norma Richmond (both Murrayfield) in a very closely contested final. Kate and Fiona are pictured below.
VERY MANY CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR
SEPTEMBER WINNERS.
