RESULTS FROM THE AUTUMN MEETING AT LIBERTON

On an almost perfect golfing day, there were scores to match at Liberton Golf Club with seven ladies playing to nett par or better. Overall best score (nett and gross) of the day came from Morag Wardrop of Turnhouse who recorded a scratch 73 for a nett 66. As Morag said afterwards, it was just one of these days when things fell into place and she was happy with how she was striking the ball. Looking at her scorecard, she had 14 pars and four bogeys - her only bogey on the back nine coming at the 18th (ranked the second hardest hole on the day). Morag will therefore be presented with the Rosebowl at the annual prizegiving for the best nett score at the Autumn Meeting.

Last year's Rosebowl winner, Elinor Blair of North Berwick, put up a great defence and was leader in the clubhouse for a while with a nett 68, gross 77. Elinor will win the scratch prize for her 77 whilst Kate Johnston of Baberton claimed runner-up spot in Silver Division for her net 67. In Bronze Division, Jane Browitt of Glencorse also had a net 67 - the only Bronze player to break par. A summary of the leading nett and gross scores, and ladies who recorded magic twos follows at the end of this article.

As is often the way, golf can be game of two halves! Many ladies bemoaned the odd lapse on one half whilst playing well on the other nine holes. The hardest hole, perhaps not surprisingly, was the dog leg 7th hole - a par 4  for which the average score was almost 5.9! However, as even those who did not score as well as they would liked agreed, Liberton GC was in great condition and it was a thoroughly enjoyable day.

"Tale of the day" goes to the player whose faulty electric trolley had had to be pushed most of the way round but inexplicably disappeared whilst putting took place on the 14th green. The player in question went to put her putter back in her bag but the trolley wasn't there, and was nowhere in sight. Apparently, it had decided to burst into life and had taken itself across two or three adjacent holes before a greenkeeper had spotted the runaway and was able to retrieve it after it crashed into a tree!!!    What  drama!
