The sun hid behind the clouds for most of the morning at the Summer Meeting at The Glen Golf Club, North Berwick on Monday 10th June ...... but it stayed dry! Whilst the temperature was cooler than over the weekend, the welcome at The Glen GC was warm and the views from the Clubhouse as well as the course were stunning.
On a day when scoring was tricky in the east wind, only a handful of ladies played within their buffer zones as a result of which a few others also "buffered" when the CSS increased to 76. The first hole in particular did not yield many pars but got a number of rounds off to a bad start (sometimes an irretrievably bad start!). For others, the challenges of the Glen came later in their rounds and there were tales of woe and of shots that went astray and putts that refused to drop (or even stop!) when cards were returned.
The overall best net score was returned by Christine Reid who had a 75, playing off a handicap of 23. Two other ladies posted net 75s: Jane Herd and Elizabeth Simpson also had a net 75 whilst Jane Herd had the best gross score of the day with an 81. In Silver division two ladies had net 76s : Norma Richmond and Jane McMinn. In Bronze Division the runner up with a net 79 was Irene Campbell.
The Summer Meeting is our Championship Qualifier; the Matchplay Draw (and qualifying scores) will be posted on Tuesday 11th once availability to play has been confirmed.
