RECENT EAST VETS MATCHES

The match against the Midland Vets for the Liz Miskimmin Friendship Quaich was played on 21st May at Falkirk Golf Club. As may be seen from the photos (Falkirk photos)    Spring had finally arrived with trees, azaleas and gorse in full blossom and the sun even shone! A good time was had by all - starting with the bacon rolls, followed by some close matches and rounded off with soup and sandwiches.

Some of the individual games were very close and others less so; overall, the match was won by the East Vets by 6 - 1. In this friendly match everyone said how much they had enjoyed their game of golf and the opportunity to renew old or make new friendships. As one Midlands Vet remarked afterwards, Liz (Miskimmin) would surely have approved.

So the Quaich has returned to the south shores of the Forth, to be held by the East Vets until the 2014 Match.  The 2013 East Vets Team (in alphabetical order) comprised Barbara Biggart, Elinor Blair, Anne Brownie, Rosie Dennis, Hazel Saunders, Sophia Spiewak and Morag Wardrop.  The Midlands Vets were represented by Captain Winifred MacCallum , Dawn Butchart, Tricia Chillas, Alison Houston, Lizee McGraw, Christine Steedman and Emma Wilson.

In addition to the above players drawn from handicap category 2 playing for the Liz Miskimmin Quaich, it had been agreed to provide additional match experience for Category 1 players. As it happened, due to a late injury to an East Vets player, the category 1 match comprised only one game - between Sue Penman (East) and Linda McDonald (Midlands). It proved to be very competitive, only being decided at the 18th with Linda edging out Sue.

Well done and thanks to everyone who played and made it such an enjoyable day.

Belatedly, here is a quick update from an earlier match played against the British Seniors Golfing Society  at Elie on 16th May. Unfortunately, this match  had a less favourable outcome for our East Vets Team who finished on the wrong side of the scoreline.  The British Seniors Men were very gracious hosts, very gentlemanly but also very competitive! Once again it was a most  enjoyable day with good golf from both sides.  Elie was in great condition and the weather stayed fair if a little on the cool side.  (No photos from Elie.)
