Summer Meeting at Haddington

Well the last thing the fourteenth hole at Haddington looked like was this, as in the picture. It was wet in one form or another all day for the East Vets Summer Meeting - yes, the Summer Meeting - and unfortunately this was reflected in both the scores and the turnout. Only 22 valiant souls played, out of the original 57 who entered, and there is no way one could report that they bounced in at the eighteenth full of the joys, having loved the game and thrilled over the scores. Almost to the last man cards were handed in with a gloomy "s'not very good", (to be greeted with a "don't worry - neither was anyone else") not until the last pair that is, Elsa Todd and Katy Gillies who seemed to have picked up the knack of popping the ball into the hole in the fewest number of strokes. (Up till that point it was definitely a non-counter - but don't feel guilty, Katy, that was just because no one else cottoned on to the right idea!)

The best scratch scores were combined with those at the Spring meeting to produce the eight qualifiers for the Championship which will take place at Haddington on Saturday and Sunday 10 - 11 July. Spectators will be very welcome.
