Anne McIntosh loses in Handicap Quaich final

Anne McIntosh(Gullane) just failed to take the East Lothian County Handicap Quaich when she was beaten in the final today against Beryl Morris of Dunbar, by one hole. What a great game!

East Vets in Midlothian championship and 'B' Championship

Midlothian held their County Championship 36-hole qualifying rounds today over Newbattle Golf Course in changeable weather conditions - i.e. variable but never that bad. The course was in splendid condition but some of the pin positions were in rather tricky parts of the green and lent themselves to three and even four putting.

Several East Vets Ladies took part but only four veterans qualified. One such lady (pictured above) - not even an East Vet since she now plays for the MIDLANDS but who ought to be mentioned as she had the third best score in a very low scoring competition is Fiona de Vries (present Scottish Veteran Champion and Honorary Member of Baberton). She had an excellent total of 149 (73,76). Other vets scores:

157 Noreen Fenton (Dunbar) 80,77
161 Karen Ballantyne (Craigmillar Park)83,78
171 Ruth Brown (Lothianburn) 86,85

Unfortunately Karen and Ruth cannot manage to play in the match-play which takes place on Friday 1st May and are consequently not in the draw. Sadly Metcheck Weather Forecast is not good but fingers crossed.

Match-Play Draw
9.00am Louise Fraser(Kingsknowe)(77,70) v Diane Moncrieff(Lochend)(84,88)

9.52am Gillian Simpson(Murrayfield)(83,84) v Rachel Watton(Mortonhall)(71,76)

The first round of the Midlothian 'B' Championship will also take place on Friday 1st May. The qualifying competition to determine those playing was at Dalmahoy West on April 20th. Four East Vets have qualified for this championship which will be played off scratch.

Midlothian 'B' C'ship Draw

No East Vets Ladies remain in East Lothian Semi-final

On a day peppered with showers, East Vets were unfortunately not successful beyond the quarterfinals of the East Lothian County Championship. Both Eleanor Black (Dunbar)and Barbara Biggart (Gullane) were unsuccessful in the morning round when Mary Lou Renton, vice-captain of East Lothian, emerged as the successful semifinalist.

Jane Herd (Musselburgh) had a very good win of 10 and 8 against Alice Archbold (Longniddry)but, at only 3 over par, succumbed by 6 and 5 to Emma Fairnie (Dunbar) who was very steady indeed, being 3 under par at the end of the game.

Handicap Quaich

In the handicap quaich the East Vets put in a great performance. Ann McIntosh(Gullane) is through to the final and will play Beryl Morris(Dunbar) tomorrow . In the first round Sheila King(Gullane) beat Corrinne Luca(Longniddry) by 6 and 5, only to lose to Beryl Norris in a very close game at the 20th in the semifinals. Anne McIntosh unfortunartely had been drawn against a fellow vet and clubmate, Jackie Squires, whom she beat by 5 and 4. In the semifinals Anne beat Pat Cusden(Dunbar) by the same margin.

Some pictures from Cruden bay

Who are all these blue-jerseyed creatures?
Are they part of a religious cult? Worse still
are there words to this prayer?

Top centre in light apple green, the disappointed but always delightful, Irish Senior team. Sporting the elegant navy - our own victorious Scottish Veteran Ladies Team, together with Lynne Terry, Pamela Williamson (who led the prayer meeting) and Isobel McIntosh (President SVLGA). Well done girls!
Thanks to Dr. Lynne Terry Scottish captain for the pictures and details on the games on both Saturday and Sunday.
