Blairgowrie – 25-27th September 2022

What a fantastic year for Karen Ferguson-Snedden. Having won the Scottish Senior Championship and representing Scotland at International level she ended the season by winning the Scottish Veteran Ladies Championship at Blairgowrie on Monday 26th September.

On Sunday Karen won through to the semi-final defeating Anne Wilson – Galloway. Monday morning saw Karen advance to the final over Anne Smith – Highland.

In a very close match with Martine Pow – Borders,  Karen eventually won 2/1 to become the Champion.

It was also a very good competition for the East Division with Val Mackenzie (72), Francis McFadzean (72) and Tricia Smith (73) winning (and retaining) the Lyon Trophy for the best 3 nett scores from a Division. West was pipped at the post by one point.

Added to this Anne Brownie (73) won the Allen Plate for best scratch score in the over 65 category for a second year.

Well done to Jennifer Bryans and Anne Brownie who won the Toni Moffat Quaichs for the best scratch score (76) in the Tuesday Greensomes for the second year running.

Congratulations all round. Well done East.

Scottish Seniors win Home Internationals

A combined team of Scottish seniors achieved history at Pyle & Kenfig GC in
Wales, by winning the inaugural R&A Women’s & Men’s Senior Home
Internationals trophy.

The women’s team included Karen Ferguson-Snedden, Karen Marshall
and Wendy Nicholson. What an achievement! Well done, ladies, we are
proud of you.

This was the first time combined teams have competed for a trophy to honour
the best side in British and Irish senior golf. England took the Sue Johnson
Trophy for the 11th time as winners of the Women’s Senior Home
Internationals, while Scotland earned a bonus as victors of the Men’s Senior
Home Internationals for the fourth time. Both championships were run
concurrently with the combined team competition. Scotland topped the points
table with three points out of three. Ireland finished second with two points,
while England came third with half a point as the Welsh finished fourth.
Amazing victory.

“It feels amazing,” said Fiona de Vries, the overall Scottish captain. “It’s been
a fantastic team effort from start to finish. It’s been an amazing experience.
We’ve all got on really well together, we’ve had fun and we’ve played great golf."

West v East Vets at Strathaven GC August 9th 2022

What a fantastic day out this was for our annual Greensomes Match versus our West Vets counterparts.

Strathaven Golf Club must be the first to be mentioned for their wonderful hospitality to us all. From all the East Vets I wish to thank the Golf Club and all involved for hosting us so well

at the Clubhouse for the ‘befores’ and lovely meal after the match.

The course is one to behold. Challenging lines from the tees and slick greens with borrows you need to know! Strathaven is a course you all should seek out to play. Fantastic.

I thank May & her West Team for hosting this annual match and congratulate them all for winning back the ASP Friendship Trophy 3 ½ v 1 ½ for this year.

East Vets Championship Finals Day Report from July 9th 2022 at Haddington Golf Club

What a super day we all had at Haddington GC for our Championship finals day. Both morning semis were extremely competitive games. The day was a beautifully warm sunny day but with a stiff wind and a fiery course it all added to the day’s drama.

The first match between Karen Marshall and Wendy Nicholson was tight with no more than 1 hole in it all the way with Wendy holding her nerve to see it won on 18th and make her first final as an East Vet.

The match between Karen Fergusson-Sneddon and Caroline Steedman was more a game of 2 halves. Karen was well up quickly in the first half, but Caroline did a brilliant job of staying cool and clawing the match back to all square at the 15th. Both played great shots into both 16th and 17th greens and the match stayed all square down the very tricky final hole where Karen managed to secure her place in the final.

The Champs final match was played so well for by both Wendy and Karen. We were treated to a good ding-dong battle with some great shots and very solid putting. High standard golf by both players. Karen got a jump on it in the front nine to go to 3up but there was a fight back on from Wendy with some solid ball striking later in the game. Karen had enough in the tank though to pull through with a win at the 17th hole.

Congratulations to our EV Champ for 2022 Karen Ferguson-Snedden & all the best to you in September at the Blairgowrie Vets Jamboree.

And finally….

As you will see from all the pictures here, I can most happily report we have our Captain Sue back with us and what a lift that has given us all. Welcome back Sue.
