Autumn Meeting 2020 Review

It was a lovely sunny day when the first players teed off at No 1 for the East Vets Autumn Meeting at Liberton Golf Club last Thursday.

We had 44 members playing and we really thought we were going to be lucky with the weather. Unfortunately, we encountered a couple of horrid squally showers during the round.

It was good to see a few of our new members joining us for their first game with the East Vets. I hope you enjoyed your day and met some new friends too. My apologies if I did not manage to speak to you on the day!

We had some good scoring as you can see with the Results posted on the day.

Well done to all our winners!

Congratulations to everyone who got a 2.

(Golf balls are due to you all!)

Thanks to Liberton Golf Club for their hospitality and to Iain Sneath, Professional for his support in making sure we were able to run the competition so smoothly in these difficult times.

Commiserations to Ann Sewell who lost her ball on the 1st only to discover it had been chewed up by an over zealous green keeper cutting the grass!

Autumn Meeting on 3rd September at Liberton Golf Club

I hope you all still enjoying your golf albeit the weather has been a little unsettled over the last few weeks. The good news is that the regulations regarding running Opens has changed and we are now able to proceed with the Autumn Meeting at Liberton GC on 3rd September.

We have around 50 people included in the Draw which will be sent separately. (This is to make sure that you know to look for the email as this sometimes ends up in your spam file)

We have also  tried to accommodate requests made.

As you are all well aware the guidelines are changing on a regular basis therefore we will send an update on the latest guidelines and procedures in place at Liberton Golf Club a few days prior to the 3rd September.

A good percentage of members have already paid £15 which was for the entry to the Spring Meeting. Members who did not enter and pay for the Spring Meeting will receive a follow up email requesting payment direct to the East Vets bank account. This payment has to be made by 26th August.

Members who paid for the Spring Meeting and are not playing in the Autumn Meeting will have their funds carried over into 2021 as per  previous communication.

All members should have receive the following email regarding this event. If you have not received this email, please contact esvlgasecretary@gmail.com to check your email address record.

Best Regards

East Vets Fixtures & update June 2020

All members should now be in receipt of this latest update following our committee meeting held on 3rd June.

If any member did not receive this email please send a note to me at esvlgasecretary@gmail.com.

Whilst the SVLGA made the early decision to cancel all their competitive golf events this year, we were reluctant to cancel all the ESVLGA events at that time.

Phase 1 of COVID-19 Operational Guidelines are now operating across all our golf clubs and I hope most of you have managed to get onto your home course and enjoy some casual games of golf!

Our Committee met at the end of last week to discuss the recent return to golf and the Phase 1 restrictions. We have also looked at what other divisions are doing and we have made the decision to cancel the remaining matches against the West and the Borders due to be held in August and September.

We are still optimistic that we may be able to have some form of competitive golf before the end of the season and with this in mind, will hold off making a decision for the next few weeks regarding the Autumn Meeting due to be held at Liberton in September.

As per their recent letter, the SVLGA has now refunded the affiliation fees for 2020 which have been credited to our bank account now. We have decided that since we have not been able to hold any events thus far, that it is only fair to carry forward your subscription payments into 2021. We hope this meets with your approval.

Committee Roles - as you are all aware we have still not been able to find someone willing to take on the Hon. Secretary role. This role is still vacant.  Is there really no one out there who is willing to take this role on?

The activities within this role have been greatly reduced by the change to collection of fees and green fees. Both Trudy and Hazel have taken on more with Hazel managing the Ramsden Cup & Friendship Foursomes knock-outs. (albeith these were all cancelled!).

Both Trudy and Hazel were due to come off the Committee this year, however, as a result of the issues we have faced with the pandemic they have very kindly agreed to remain in situ for another year. This is a great result and on behalf of everyone I would like to thank both of them for their ongoing commitment.

Spring Meeting 2020 - we collected nearly 70 entries and fees for  the Spring Meeting at Dunbar.
The process of collecting bank account details and processing this amount of refunds would be extremely time consuming and fraught with error. I would like to propose that these fees are retained and used in the first competition to be played. This may be the Autumn Meeting in September or the first event in 2021.  Obviously, by exception we will undertake to make refunds where requested.

These are certainly unprecedented and extraordinary times.
I hope to see you all at a competition soon.
Keep Safe & Best Regards
Anne

Copy of letter received from SVLGA in May

As you all know, we are in the midst of a coronavirus epidemic and the SVLGA Committee has been trying to find the best way forward for 2020.  We have held a virtual committee meeting, and, taking into account recent government advice on the length of time it may take to find our way out of the lockdown, we have decided to cancel all our events for 2020.    Playing any kind of competitive golf event appears to be quite a long way off. Our events involve an older age group, travel across Scotland and England, overnight stays, catering, not to speak of methods of playing golf at a social distance.  We hope that all Divisions agree with these decisions.

The first event to be cancelled is the Jamboree at Glenbervie.  We were looking forward to hosting the English Divisions in Scotland.  However, the Divisions have agreed to postpone the event to 2021, and we have booked to play at Glenbervie from Monday 2nd - Thursday 5th August 2021.

We have also decided to cancel the SVLGA Championship.  Many Divisions have cancelled their qualifying competitions which are usually played over the year leading up to the finals at Blairgowrie.  The Scottish Championship will not be contested this year.   In 2021 the SVLGA Championship Finals will be contested on Sunday 19th September and Monday 20th September at Blairgowrie as usual.

We have also cancelled the Blairgowrie event.  We were hoping that we might be able to hold a golf event in September as it is still a few months away, but it is looking increasingly unlikely that we would be able to hold the event in the normal format, and the sensible decision is to cancel it.  We have booked at Blairgowrie for 2021 on Monday 20th September and Tuesday 21st September.  Thank you to everyone who intimated that they would like to play this year.  Most Divisions had taken up their quota, and will be allocated the same number of places for 2021.

Our AGM is scheduled for Sunday 20th September 2020 at Blairgowrie at 7.30pm.  As the Blairgowrie event is not going ahead, we will find another method of holding the AGM which is likely to be on the same date at the same time.  We will let you know details as soon as we can.

We would like to thank all Divisions for paying their Affiliation Fees for 2020, especially with so much uncertainty.  We have decided that SVLGA will refund the Fees to the Divisions for 2020 as no events are taking place. . SVLGA do have some ongoing costs - administration, software, insurance, coaching and Blairgowrie payments (eg vouchers awarded in 2019) and we are hoping to cover these costs from our reserves. The refunds will of course also apply to the £30 that most divisions have paid towards the prizes for Blairgowrie

It is a very difficult time for everyone.  We hope you are all keeping safe and positive.  We may be able to play social golf before too long, which should help a little.

Take care.

On behalf of the SVLGA Committee
Alison Houston
SVLGA Secretary

SVLGA Blairgowrie 2020 - News

Whilst Coronavirus is dominating all of our thinking at present, it is difficult to consider what life will hold in 6 months' time. However, we hope that the worst will be passed by September and we will be able to go ahead with our Blairgowrie event as planned. so, we are planning as normal, and are now asking each Division to co-ordinate entries for this year.

The Patrick Rosebowl (played over Rosemount) - singles - Monday 21st September 2020
The Beddows Quaich (played over Lansdowne) - greensomes - Tuesday 22nd September 2020

East Vets has been allocated 8 spaces for Blairgowrie 2020 so a ballot will take place if applications exceed our allocated spaces. The number of entries/spaces are for a partnership, so 8 spaces means 8 couples or 16 ladies.  (Note: We have been lucky enough to acquire more places in previous years where other divisions have not used their whole allocation but that is not guaranteed).

Those interested in applying should download an application form which can be found on the FORMS Tab :

eastvets.blogspot.com

Send the completed application form to:   esvlgasecretary@gmail.com no later than Friday 17th April.

The cost of the entry is £124 per couple for the full event.  The SVLGA are not asking for payment of entry fees at this time.

FORM COMPLETION - Tee times for both competitions: SVLGA has asked those applying to please vary their choice of tee times as they do receive numerous requests for a start time of between 10.00 - 12.00.

Coronavirus - Impact on Fixtures for 2020

In light of the latest updates concerning the Coronavirus and the government recommendations we have had to make the following decisions:

1. The Spring Meeting scheduled for 6th April at Dunbar GC has been cancelled. We are conscious that we have collected entry monies for this competition which with your approval and co-operation, we will retain to go towards the entry fee for the Summer Meeting. If this situation changes then we would obviously put in place a process to provide refunds.

2. The Ramsden Cup and Friendship Foursomes have been cancelled.

3. Cross divisional matches scheduled to take place over the next 2 months have been cancelled.

4. The British Seniors match scheduled for 19th May at Elie GC has also been cancelled.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on other fixtures. Obviously, we are all extremely disappointed but agree that this is in the best interests of our members.

Please keep safe and try to enjoy some of this good weather!

Coffee Morning & Fun Quiz held at Glencorse GC on Monday 17th February.

The new season for 2020 got off to a great start at Glencorse Golf Club today where we received a very warm welcome from Billy and Emma. Around 40 members enjoyed the delicious spread of homemade scones, cakes and biscuits.

It was a fun morning catching up with friends as well as welcoming 3 of our new members: Marion Currie, Nancy Thorne and Liz Millar. We look forward to seeing all our new members at our events and fixtures throughout the year.

9 teams took part in the Fun Quiz with team Castle Stuart beating the other teams to win. Congratulations to Katie Gillies, Nancy Thorne and Pamela Williamson.  Well done Ladies!

Thanks to Anne Brownie for preparing some thought provoking questions on some of the recent rule changes, as well as providing some context around the answers which was greatly appreciated.

Subscriptions Update

Many thanks to all our members who have paid their subscription dues direct into the Vets bank account. Over 50% of our members have now paid their dues to date.

Start of the New Season Coffee Morning & Fun Quiz on 17th February at Glencorse GC

All members should now have received a copy of the attached letter containing details of the above event. The cost is £5 to be paid on the day.

HON. SECRETARY POST - EAST VETS NEED YOU!

The first committee meeting of the year has now taken place without the support of a Secretary. We are making another appeal to all our members to consider who can help support the running of the East Vets.

See attached letter which highlights the streamlined role. If this role is not filled soon, it will be difficult to deliver a good service to our membership and will put a lot of pressure on the existing committee members. The committee is appealing to anyone who can help with this matter.Click here
