Blairgowrie 2018

Elaine Moffat and Jennifer Bryans



The SVLGA Championship was held at Blaigowrie on Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th September over the Landsdown Course .

In the Quarter Finals East Vets Champion Jennifer Bryans defeated Sally Downs (Galloway) 7&6. Jennifer had an eagle two at the 10th hole holing her 2nd shot with a 5 wood.
In the Semi Finals Jennifer defeated Carol Purves (Borders) 4&3
In the Final Jennifer was defeated by Elaine Moffat (Midland) 6&5.
Congratulations to Elaine in her first year as a Vet. Commiserations to  Jennifer. You did brilliant and all East Vets are very proud of you.







Twelve East Vets played in the Patrick Rosebowl on Monday 24th September, over the Rosemount Course, East Vets did very well.

 2nd  Handicap : Denise Mitchell
 4th   Handicap : Caroline Kinnaird
 5th   Handicap :  Karen Ballantyne

 In the 65-69 age group
Scratch : Karen Ballantyne
1st  Handicap : Caroline Kinnaird
2nd Handicap : Karen Ballantyne

In the over 70's
2nd Handicap : Denise Mitchell

East Vets also won the Lyon Trophy for the Division with 3 best net scores in the Rosebowl.
(Denise Mitchell, Caroline Kinnaird and Karen Ballantyne). This was last won by East Division in 2008.

The weather on Sunday and Monday was very good but unfortunately on Tuesday it was very windy and wet. There were no East Vets winners in the Beddows Quaichs Greensomes.

Womens Senior Amateur Championship at Crail Golf Club


The Womens Senior Amateur Championship was held at Crail Golf Club on 18th to 20th September. The competition was decided over two rounds as the second round on Wednesday was cancelled due to the stormy weather.
East Vets champion Jennifer Bryans came a very credible 34th and 2nd placed Scott against a very strong field. Well Done Jennifer.

Jennifer is playing in the SVLGA Championships at Blairgowrie. The quarter finals are on Sunday 23rd September. The Semi Finals and Finals are on Monday the 24th. We wish Jennifer Good Luck.

Good luck also to all the East Vets playing at Blairgowrie on Monday in the Patrick Rosebowl and on Tuesday in the Beddows Quaich.

Death of two East Vets


Sadly two of our members have passed away.

Joan Marshall passed away on Friday 14th September. Joan was a member of Baberton Golf Club and a past Captain and President of Midlothian County. Her funeral is on Saturday 22nd September at 11am at Mortonhall.

Isobel Hastings passed away on Saturday 15th September. Isobel was a member of Murrayfield Golf Club and a great supporter of East Vets. Two years ago she donated a Trophy for the over 75's. She will be fondly remembered each year when this Trophy is presented at our prize giving.
There will be a private cremation on Monday, 24th September with a service of Thanksgiving to follow at 2.30pm  in Greenbank Parish Church, Edinburgh. The family have asked if attending to wear bright colours.

Ruth Brown wins the Ramsden Cup


The final of the Ramsden Cup was played at Liberton Golf Course on Saturday 15th September beteen Ruth Brown and Mairi Pollock.
 It was a very close match and as they both play of the same handicap no shots were given.
Ruth was delighted to win 2 and 1. Congratulations to Ruth and commiserations to Mairi.

Results for East Vets v Borders Vets Greensomes at Glencorse GC on 11th September


Glencorse GC extended a very warm welcome to both teams on arrival, serving up hot drinks and bacon rolls getting everyone off to a good start for the annual greensomes match.

The sun shone throughout the day albeit a wee bit blustery at times. We were treated to the sounds of a pipe band from the nearby barracks.

All matches were played in the best of spirit and the day was finished off with a delicious meal served up by excellent catering staff where nothing was a problem.

Many thanks to Chris and her team from the Borders for a great friendly atmosphere where new and old friends all enjoyed the challenge match and celebration meal afterwards.

Autumn Meeting Scores Processing Glitch


Apologies to all the ladies who found their handicap was affected by the glitch in the closing of the competition.The Meeting scores were undone and rerun taking out the N/Rs which went through for those ladies who had in fact withdrawn.
Golf Box (CDH) have now removed the scores from their database and any ladies who were affected will be fixed once their club handicappers recalculate their handicaps again.

The final of the Friendship Foursomes was played at North Berwick Golf Club. Jenni Ray & Jane McMinn were the winners v Viv Mitchell & Pat Meikle.The match was very close and won on the 18th hole. Congratulations to Jenni and Jane.

Autumn Meeting at Liberton


The Autumn Meeting was held on Monday 3rd September at Liberton Golf Club.
35 ladies braved the wet weather. Despite the wet conditions the course held up well and was in lovely conditions. Many thanks to Liberton Golf Club. There were some good scores with Caroline Steedman posting a scratch 72 -5 net 67. A great score Caroline ,well done
Apologies for the lateness of the results being posted. There was a glitch in the software causing the wrong CSS to be calculated. The competition had to be undone and rerun.
