EAST VETS 2016 CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER

Jennifer Bryans:2016 East Vets Champion

Jennifer Bryans of Harburn GC won the SVLGA East Division Championship at Haddington Golf Club and will represent East Vets in the Scroggie Cup inter-divisonal championship at Blairgowrie in September. Congratulations Jennifer and commiserations to runner-up Barbara Biggart (North Berwick GC) who was leading qualifier and went all the way to the Final.

 No sooner than the Final had got underway and it was waterproofs on and umbrellas up. However, the rain only lasted a few holes and there was even the odd glimpse of blue sky on the way round! Jennifer took an early lead at the second hole but Barbara immediately hit back with a birdie at the third. After exchanging holes at the fourth and fifth, Jennifer went ahead again at the sixth then at the seventh both she and Barbara hit excellent iron shots to the green. However, Barbara's putt failed to drop whilst Jennifer's did - to double her lead. Both players were on the tricky par-3 eighth green which was halved in regulation whilst neither found the ninth with their second shots. A very good up and down from Jennifer extended her lead to 3 up at the turn and although Barbara reduced the lead to 2 up at the thirteenth, her approach to the fifteenth overshot the green and Jennifer seized the opportunity to go three up again. Jennifer closed out the match at the sixteenth where Barbara's ball had too close an encounter with the large greenside tree resulting a 4&2 win for Jennifer.

EAST VETS CHAMPIONSHIP - BarbarHADDINGTON GC

The Final of the 2016 Championship will be contested between Barbara Biggart (North Berwick) and Jennifer Bryans (Harburn) The Final will tee off at 2.37pm at Haddington GC.

 In the  morning semifinals, Barbara played Sue Penman of Gullane Ladies. After halving the first, Sue birdied the second but her lead was quickly clawed back and Barbara edged in front. Barbara was 2 up after 12 holes and then built on her lead to close the match out 4 & 3 with  Barbara's short game making the difference as she chipped and putted superbly.

The other semifinal proved  very close indeed, finishing at the 18th hole when Jennifer holed a slippery little putt to half the hole and win one up. This was real nip and tuck affair with lots of halved holes. Anne's one hole lead after 11 holes was cut back at the 12th and the match remained all square until the 15th which Jennifer won, and then the remaining holes were halved.

SEMI FINALS & FINALS OF CHAMPIONSHIP ON 9TH JULY

The Semi-Finals and Final of our ESVLGA Championship take place on Saturday 9th July at Haddington Golf Club, and spectators will be very welcome.

The semifinal line-up is as follows:
10 a.m.(*) Barbara Biggart (N Berwick) vs  Sue Penman (Gullane Ladies)
10.07 a.m Jennifer Bryans (Harburn)  vs Anne Hanson (Glencorse)

(*) this quarter-final is being played on Friday 8th July.

The Final will tee off at 3pm on Saturday 9th July.
