MATCH V MIDLAND DIVISION, TURNHOUSE GC

Congratulations to the Midland Division Vets Team who prised the Liz Miskimmin Friendship Trophy out of the hands of East Vets in a closely contested match at Turnhouse GC on Tuesday 17th May.  Midland Captain Shelagh Quinn is pictured below, receiving the quaich from Anne Brownie, East Vets Captain.

The winning Midland Team are all smiles in their team photo below whilst there are happy faces all round in the picture of both teams which, as ever, lived up to its name of the Friendship Quaich.

The winning margin was 4 to 3 with some great golf being played on both sides - tales of holes halved in birdies in the clubhouse afterwards! Turnhouse Golf Course was in lovely condition and the weather was kind to us. Some players did find the breeze a little tricky at times whilst others got a little closer to the beautiful blossom on the many flowering trees than they might have wished! Sadly for our East Vets team, home advantage did not work out well for us and the Liz Miskimmin Trophy has gone north of the Forth after four years in East hands.

The individual game results were as follows (East names first):
Susan Penman (Gullane Ladies) won 4 & 2 v Kay Knight (Pitlochry)
Anne Brownie (Gullane Ladies) won 3 & 2 v Elsie Hutchison  (Ladybank)
Hazel Saunders (Gullane Ladies) lost 2 & 1 to Aileen Baker (Crail)
Carol Brown (Mortonhall) lost  3 & 2 to Dorothy Ford (Scotscraig)
Ruth Brown (Mortonhall) lost 6 & 4 to Sarah Walker (Braehead)
Dawn Young (North Berwick) won 2 up v Fiona Hill (St Regulus)
Dulcie Barnes (Gullane Ladies) lost 4 & 3 to Tricia Chillas  (Stirling)

Eagle-eyed readers of this blog will note that the East Vets team sheet shows several changes (due to injury and illness); with both reserves already having been called up by Sunday evening, Captain Anne Brownie had to draft herself into the team meaning that Vice- Captain Caroline Kinnaird was left to take photos of the occasion. A selection of photos of players, the course and views from a lovely day (apart from the result!) may be enjoyed by clicking HERE

SUMMER MEETING (& SUMMER POLOSHIRTS)

The Draw for the Summer Meeting at Haddington GC on 7th June has now been published. There is a good entry of more than 70 members. Entrants have had a copy of the Draw emailed to them; the Draw may also be viewed from this website (go to "Draws"!!).

Here's hoping for a lovely, summer's day and good scoring!

Footnote re East Vets' poloshirts: should any member who has not already bought a mint poloshirt wish to buy one, they may be running out of time to do so. This may be the last year this particular colour is in stock at Wilkies so anyone interested in getting one should contact Dulcie Barnes. Dulcie is willing to pop into Wilkies in North Berwick and bring any orders for members for payment/collection at the Summer Meeting.
