Let's hope for summery weather at our Summer Meeting at Haddington GC on 17th June. This is our Championship Qualifying Competition; qualifiers need to be available to play the quarter-finals at a mutually agreed time in week commencing 14th July but please note that the semi-finals are at 10.00 and 10.07 on Saturday 19th July, with the Final at 3pm, also on the 19th July. Please note that the SVLGA Inter Divisional Championship will be played over the weekend of 20th/21st September at Strathmore Golf Club; our East Champion will play the West Champion in the first round.
The Summer Meeting Draw has been issued to entrants by email and may also be viewed via the "Draws" button. Would entrants please note that £5 is due at check-in on the day (assuming you paid your £10 deposit on entry). Competitors will be asked to indicate on their scorecards whether they are available for the Championship Matchplay in July (dates as in the above paragraph)
We are trialling a new method of notifications of call-offs (hopefully not necessary!) on the day by phoning or texting a dedicated mobile (07910907980) available only on 17th June. Any communications prior to 17th June should be to the Secretary in the normal way.

MIDLANDS MATCH
The annual match (Category 2 handicaps) against the Midland Vets for the Liz Miskimmin Friendship Quaich took place on 20th May at Mortonhall GC and resulted in a win for the East Vets by the narrow margin of 4 to 3.
For many of the players on both teams, this match was the first time they had played Mortonhall and found it a good test of golf with some beautiful scenery and wildlife to admire (in between golf shots, of course!). A "hidden gem" was one description. Whilst we didn't see much of the sun with a haar coming and going, it stayed dry and a little on the cool side especially for those not playing. East Vets Captain Marjory Lauder acted as starter for the seven matches whilst Midlands Captain Liz Fertacz and Anne Brownie (East Vice Captain, and chief photographer) followed progress out on the course. Several individual matches were very close, and the overall result was not known until the second last game came off the course. All in all, it was a very enjoyable day with some wonderful golf shots and great camaraderie - living up to its billing as the Friendship Quaich.
As will be seen from the slideshow to follow, it was not just the golf that was enjoyed with Mortonhall's pre-match scones proving very popular and setting up those smiles on the first tee!

EAST VETS MATCH VS BRITISH SENIORS
This annual match between East Vets and the British Seniors took place on Thursday 15th May. As ever, it was a most enjoyable occasion with an excellent lunch prior to play. The weather stayed fair for us and, at the end of the day, the result was a very honourable 3 - 3 drawn match. As ever some players had hot putters whereas for others the greens were tricky but win or lose a good time was had by all. Our thanks go to British Seniors Men for arranging this match.
