SPRING (?) MEETING AT GULLANE

Spring may have sprung over Easter weekend but it went into hiding on Tuesday 22nd April resulting in a number of withdrawals and a reduced field for our East Vets Spring Meeting over Gullane 3.

59 ladies decided to brave the rather "dreich" day - it had been wet overnight but was damp rather than actually raining when players teed off.  Several of those who played were rewarded with good scores as whilst the greens may have been a bit slower than sometimes, the conditions above ground were not as severe as they'd seemed when indoors looking out  on to the course.  So well done to all those who went out and played, and congratulations to the ladies who came in with good scores especially our nett and gross prizewinners listed below.

Three ladies broke par recording  net 68s with the overall winner, Jane McMinn (playing off 16), being decided on countback over the last 6 holes.  New East Vets Linda Smith  and Sandra Liddle  were pipped by Jane with Sandra winning the Bronze Division by 6 shots.

Noreen Fenton (Dunbar) recorded the best scratch score of the day, a very creditable 74 posted early in the day.  Scratch Runner Up was  Pamela Williamson (Baberton) with a gross 77  (with a mention in dispatches for Barbara Biggart  with a gross 78 giving her 3rd place in Silver Net prizewinners).

Overall Winner : Jane McMinn(North Berwick West) Net 68 (best last 6)
/1st Silver
2nd in Silver :  Linda Smith (Longniddry)                Net 68
3rd in Silver : Barbara Biggart(North Berwick West)Net 69(best last 6)
4th  in Silver :  Jane Neville      (Murrayfield)           Net 69

Bronze Winner         Sandra Liddle  (Mortonhall)                Net  68
Bronze Runner Up   Elspeth Morrison (Musselburgh)         Net 74
(on count back from  Sheila Dickson (Mortonhall)

Three "twos" were scored : Barbara Biggart, Katy Gillies and Barbara Halliday.

The CSS went up by one to 70 with only one CSS applicable in the reduced field.  (Apologies to those players present when it was thought that the CSS had increased to 71 - it was subsequently found that there were some "ghosts" in the system (as a result of the many withdrawals) affecting the CSS calculation which was revised to 70.)

Thanks must go to the Gullane admin and catering staff who fielded a number  of phonecalls early on notifying cancellations.  Let's keep our fingers crossed for brighter weather at Haddington GC for our Summer Meeting.
