The inter-divisional playoff to decide the Scottish Vets Matchplay Champion for 2013 took place on Sunday 22/Monday 23 September at Blairgowrie. East Vets were represented by Anne Hanson for the first time after her win at The Glen GC last month (pictured below at North Berwick) .
Anne was up against Alison Bartlett, Highland Vets Champion, in her quarter-final tie - a tough match as Alison is a Scottish Senior Internationalist. After a shaky start which saw her 5 down after 7 holes played, Anne staged a dogged fightback which culminated in winning the 18th to square the match and force extra holes. Unfortunately, Anne lost at the first extra hole but it was a very creditable performance against the eventual winner as Alison Bartlett went on to become the 2013 Scottish Vets Champion. Well done Anne as you took Alison further than her subsequent opponents, and congratulations to Alison on becoming Champion.

UPDATE FROM BLAIRGOWRIE
Fortunately for the 20 East Vets ladies who went up to Blairgowrie for the annual two days of SVLGA competition over Rosemount and Lansdowne courses on 16th and 17th September........ the weather forecast turned out to be VERY WRONG! Yes it was pretty chilly on Monday (to the extent that overnight frost meant the greens could not be cut!) but we were not blown away by gales nor were our waterproofs put to the test. That's not to say that the conditions were easy for golf- as the scores for many showed. However, it is not all about the golf but also about socialising with Vets from other Divisions so even if not as many putts dropped as hoped for there was always the 19th hole!!
Highlights from East Vets were Alice Archbold who won the Senior Scratch Trophy (see picture); Barbara Biggart who won the Small Cup (so called as it is played for over the 9 hole course) and Sue Penman/Ros Thoresen who tied the winning score in the Greensomes. Congratulations to our East Vets prizewinners. Results are listed below the following photo of Alice Archbold with the Allen Plate ; for more photos/reports see the West Vets Blog at http://westvets.blogspot.co.uk/

17th Sept (Lansdowne Course): Greensomes -Beddows Quaichs
Congratulations to Sue Penman and Ros Thoresen of East Vets who had a gross 81, net
72.2 which tied the leading scores scratch and net but narrowly missed out on
the Beddows Quaichs Trophies on the better inward half. Sue and Ros did win the
vouchers for leading scratch but Jen Petrie and Jean Clark of Northern Division
picked up both the scratch and net trophies. Belated happy birthday to Sue who
was celebrating a significant birthday milestone!!!!
At the AGM Noreen Fenton (above with her shiny new badge) took over as Vets Captain from Helen Faulds whilst another East Vet, Gillian Kirkwood serves as Vice President. It was announced that the annual Blairgowrie Vets competition days would be 15th and 16th September in 2014 but the Championship matchplay in 2014 between Divisional Champions would need to be on different dates and a separate venue due to the British Seniors being at Royal Dornoch and the Junior Ryder Cup being at Blairgowrie in mid-September 2014.

SEPTEMBER SNIPPETS
Winners of the inaugural foursomes
The winners of the 2013 knockout foursomes are Jean Bryden and Helen Holton who were 3 & 2 winners of the final against Alice Archbold and Elinor Blair over Gullane 1. An interesting aside is that Jean had just arrived back from Canada the night before the Final so either the jetlag hadn't kicked in or we should all arrange our ties for the day after international flights!.
Congratulations to Jean and Helen.
The above photo is to show that the sun shone at Torwoodlee!
Unfortunately our East Vets Team of Gina Thomson, Margo Blair, Viv Mitchell, Irene Campbell, Eleanor Stewart, Pat Meikle, Christine Simpson, Susan Tudball, Sandra Kempston and Marion Law captained by Marjory Lauder lost 5 games to 1. It was decided to use the greensomes format for this annual friendly match and despite being on the wrong side of the scoreline, the East Vets all agreed they had had a lovely day out at a good venue with excellent company and a lovely meal.
The annual autumn get-together of the different Vets Divisions takes place 16/17th September in Blairgowrie to compete for the Patrick Rosebowl and Beddows Quaichs. We wish all East Vets participating a most enjoyable couple of days with fair weather, great camaraderie and good golf.
(Note that the SVLGA Championship knockout does not take place until the following weekend when we will be represented by Anne Hanson - best of luck Anne vs Alison Bartlett of the North on 22nd September.)

EAST VETS TO THE FORE AT SLGA MEDAL FINALS
The Grand Medal Finals were played on Sunday 8th September at King James VI GC in Perth. Twenty-three ladies, who had qualified from one of the 6 Regional Medal Finals during the season, competed on a beautiful golfing day and East Vet Vivien Mitchell (Lochend), who finished with a net 74, was the winner of the Bronze Division. Vivien is having a great season and is now down to handicap 15 but was eligible to compete in Bronze Division based on her handicap at the time of qualification. Very well done Vivien!
Another East Vet who has been doing well this season is Morag Wardrop of Turnhouse who was runner up in the Silver Division Medal Final with a net 73 which meant she played to her handicap of 8 on the day. (The winner was another Vet, Heather Anderson of Midland Vets, who had a scratch 71, net 67!). Well done Morag for coming a very creditable second.

AND THE WINNER OF THE RAMSDEN CUP IS ..........
Dulcie Barnes.
Played over a neutral venue (Liberton GC), the closely contested Final was played in good spirit with Dulcie rounding off what has been an excellent season with a win over Morag Wardrop. Dulcie went very close in the ESVLGA Championship this year with a narrow defeat in the semifinals but now is the proud winner of the Ramsden Cup.
The story of the match is that it was nip and tuck for the first seven holes but bunker trouble for Morag at the tricky par 3 eighth hole allowed Dulcie to edge in front .Dulcie then used that momentum to build a lead around the turn, using her stroke received at the fourteenth hole to close out her win.
