Date for Spring Meeting is Easter Monday

Our East Vets secy Katherine, who tirelessly works away for the benefit of the Division, is anxious to point out to all who haven't noticed that the date for the Spring Meeting at Gullane No 3 is unfortunately Easter Monday. Year in, year out, there is increasing difficulty in getting the course one wants on the date one wants and often it's not what you want but what you are able to get. Katherine says she is aware that this might cause some problems with anyone who might be away over Easter and particularly for those who wanted to participate in the Championship since two scores are needed to qualify - one from the Spring and one from the Summer Meeting.

The East Vets Committee hopes the date does not cause too much disappointment.

East Vets Fixture List for 2010

For those ladies unable to read this rather small print, please click on this fixture list to enlarge but watch out, its quite scary.

It looks like we should all be throwing aside our winter blues and getting these golf clubs dusted and polished. It's 2010 and here's the East Vets Fixture list showing what's lined up for this year. Please note the addition at Turnhouse on Tuesday 25th May, of a scratch singles match between East Vets and Midlands Vets for ladies with handicaps between 6 - 10, so remember when sending in your subscription -( by 1st March) to Katherine that you include your exact handicap, please. The East Vets v Borders Foursomes match,( not one with the most auspicious success rate ) will be played at a different venue at Swanston New on Monday 13th September. We would love to reverse our fortunes so if those liable to be considered would like a preview of the largely revamped course, there's an Open Greensomes on Saturday 24th April. Why not give it a bash. Greensomes are always fun and the prizes are generous.

Your attention is drawn to a further change regarding our championship which seems to always cause administrative problems. This year we are having two qualifying rounds, one from the Spring Meeting on Gullane N0. 3 and the second from the Summer meeting at Haddington. The eight best aggregate scores in both meetings, will qualify to play for the Lady McInnes Shaw Cup. All matches will play over Haddington GC but this year these will take place over a weekend in July - Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th. It has often been a complaint that this competition, designed to produce our champion, has not been geared toward working ladies, hence the trial this year of this new format. Let's hope it's a winner. The times of the quarters, semis and final games will be reported on this website nearer the time so that you may come and support.

Good luck and good golf this year

Natural Hazards to Winter Golf

Some pictures in and around Midlothian showing how winter golf is a little difficult at the moment. For those feeling a little deprived, there is always one's putter and the living-room carpet!

A New Year

Happy New Year to all East Vets and indeed all other vets who have "clicked in". Let this year and this decade be one that sees everything you want from your golf be it on the course or off. Let it be another year when we see Scotland shine as it shone last year.

Your East Vets Committee has already started to arrange a new year's fixture list with some additions and some changes - prime amongst these being a new scratch match against the Midlands for ladies with handicaps between 6 - 10. This should be great fun and if successful - a regular feature.

This snow, shown above surrounding Lothianburn's T-Wood, cannot last forever, however pretty, and we can get those golf clubs out again. Bring it on!
