Pamela Williamson plays in Austria

 
Pamela Williamson (Baberton) is playing in the European Senior Women's amateur Championship in Achensee-Pertisau, Austria. The Scottish contingency is small, being three in a field of just over fifty. Fiona de Vries (honorary member of Baberton but playing out of St Rule) and Christine McAndrew of Nairn Dunbar are the other two vets.

After round one Pamela was lying very commendably in joint fourth place, with a 6 over par 77 which was only one more than the joint leaders. Pamela's round was an exciting combination of hopes raised and hopes dashed but typically, with a strong finish. She must have been dissatisfied to start with a double bogey at the par 4 first hole, followed by a bogey. However nothing daunted, she plunged in with a string of six comfortable pars marred only slightly with a bogey to complete her outward half. Although starting the inward nine with yet another bogey 5, she pushed things up a gear with a delicious birdie 2, bogey, then came back fighting with another birdie 2 followed by yet another birdie 4 at the fourteenth. How disappointing to crash back to earth with a heartbreaking double bogey at the fifteenth then two further bogeys. The shortish eighteenth however saw her finish positively with a good par three - all set for the next day and Round 2.

The following day (Friday) unfortunately saw a slight drop in fortunes. Pamela followed her first round 77 with an 83, leaving her in joint 12th position. This round lacked the sparks of brilliance of the previous day although it still contained a birdie at the longish eighth hole. Fiona de Vries was joint 22nd on 163 and Christine McAndrew 51st on 178
